9/11 Stories: September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows Prepares for Ten Year Anniversary

As we approach the ten year anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, Tides project September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows is commemorating this date with a renewed call for compassionate, just, and nonviolent solutions in the face of war and terrorism.  As Peaceful Tomorrows reminds us, "Ten years since the attacks of 9/11, it is more pressing than ever that we on this shared earth learn the vital lessons of how to live together peacefully."

As part of this commemoration, the group has been collecting videos from family members of those killed during the attacks for the 911 Stories project.  Watch the introduction to the project from Peaceful Tomorrows co-founder David Potorti, and visit their YouTube Channel to see more:

Peaceful Tomorrows has also been featured in quite a bit of high-profile press in recent months as media outlets across the world prepare to commemorate 9/11.  Check out view stories in the Associated Press, NPR, Hardball with Chris Matthews, and other.  And be sure to watch this profile of Peaceful Tomorrows member Talat Hamdani in the New York Times:

In addition to its media work, Peaceful Tomorrows offers educational resources to reflect upon the lessons of 9/11 and its impact on human rights and civil liberties.  Peaceful Tomorrows recently collaborated with the social justice newspaper The Change Agent on a special issue featuring stories of 9/11 families of all faiths turning their grief into actions for peace.
